March Happenings at Ávila
March was a doozy of a month, roaring in (and out) like a lion. In spite of Mother Nature’s ups and downs there was plenty going on here at Ávila.
Strides Against Breast Cancer Fund Raiser
February 2017 marked Avila’s fifth annual fund raiser for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. Residents in our community came together to support this organization with a prize raffle, Pancake Breakfast, and 50/50. Residents and staff brought in $1,131.00! Chris Falzarano, a representative from Albany County Chapter of the American Cancer Society was presented with a check on March 28 during our monthly Town Hall meeting.
We are happy to support this organization that does such fine work to fight cancer and support the community affected by it.
Lifelong Learning Series
Our lifelong series has been a huge hit. From lectures by local astronomer Dr. Valerie Rapson to a virtual tour of the Tiffany windows in Troy we’ve learned a lot about our region and its rich history. This month we added two more lectures to our series. John Scherer, retired curator at the NYS Museum presented “Music Halls to Movie Palaces Popular Entertainment 1850-1930”, Robert Edelman, lecturer at SUNY Albany, movie commentator on WAMC and author presented “Baseball in Movies”.
Our Video Won a National Award
