Keeping Our Cool This Winter

Jan 17, 2017 | Health and Wellness

We’ve reached the point in winter when we are dreaming of spring. But until the warm weather reaches our doorstep, we’re making sure to follow some best practice guidelines for thriving in colder climates.

Stay Hydrated

This one can be easy to overlook when it’s cold and the sun hides itself away. To help your skin, energy levels and overall health, be sure you’re drinking plenty of water. If you’re looking for ways to warm up, try a nice cup of hot tea, or add fresh lemon juice to warm water.

Moisturize

This tip applies from head to toe! Protect your body’s largest organ with a consistent skincare routine. You may want to consider adding a humidifier into the mix if the air in your home is particularly dry. And don’t retire your sunscreen for the season—you still need to apply SPF even on overcast, cold days.

Eat Fresh Foods

Comfort food is king in cold months, but it can take a toll on your overall nutrition and contribute to weight gain. On shopping trips, load up on fresh fruits and veggies. Here is a list of seasonal produce to inspire your shopping list.

Get Out and Have Fun!
It can be easy to spend the winter months burrowed under our favorite blanket. But when the winter doldrums start to sink in, pick up the phone, call a great friend and make plans to venture out. It’s even easier to have fun with friends when you’re part of a community like Ávila. See some of the ways our residents are staying active this winter here.
