Great weather is here, and we couldn’t be more ready to for it! From exploring beautiful gardens to heading out on the town, here is a list of activities for seniors to enjoy.

Take a Stroll
The health benefits of walking are pretty impressive. Through walking, you can:

  • Improve the health of your heart
  • Lower your blood sugar
  • Experience less pain
  • Have stronger social engagement
  • Give your mental health a boost

Walking is a fun and affordable way to stay healthy and keep your mood elevated. Our residents are often inspired by their trips through the grounds. See some of their amazing photography here.

Roll Out Your Mat

When we think of yoga, we don’t always think of the outdoors. But it can be incredibly relaxing to get a good stretch in the sunshine! Find a grassy space where you can do some simple poses. You can even recruit some friends to join you!

Three poses you might want to try are chair pose, tree pose and high lunge. Yoga can be incredibly beneficial for improving balance and preventing falls.

Classic Games

Bring out a few tables or blankets and arrange a card tournament. Bocce at Avila Retirement CommunityThe fresh air will be an invigorating addition to your weekly game. Or,consider adding some lawn games to the mix! Bocce ball, croquet, horseshoes, shuffleboard: there is a never ending list of ways we can get engaged and active outdoors through games.

Get Inspired

Making art can be a great way to feel connected to the outdoors. Maybe a certain plant catches your eye, or you just have to capture that perfect sunset. May you love to paint, sculpt, write, take photographs or create intricate needlepoint designs. There is a whole world of living art all around us. Art is surprising great for health and stress reduction, too!
