Natural Cleaners to Disinfect Your Home

Nov 10, 2018 | Health and Wellness

Keeping a tidy and clean home helps us to stay healthy and feel more relaxed. But harsh chemicals in many store-bought cleaners can irritate the skin and lungs, or pose other health hazards.

Luckily, there are alternatives ways to get rid of germs, soap scum, and other pesky problems. These natural cleaners will help you safely clean your space in no time!

White Vinegar

The MVP of germ removal, this method of cleaning is both safe and highly affordable. It easily cuts through grease, mildew, odors, stains and wax buildup. It’s high acidity kills bacteria, making it an excellent alternative to bleach.

Vodka

Bottoms up! Vodka that is 80 proof or higher is excellent at removing germs, mold and mildew. It can also be used to shine surfaces and remove stains. And a bonus—you mind find the scent far less overpowering than the smell of vinegar.

Lemons

Lemons are naturally high in citric acid, which makes them particularly good at disinfecting non-porous surfaces, removing alkaline stains found in kitchens and bathrooms, and of course removing dreaded soap scum. Add a little baking soda to create a scrub for tougher spots and stains.

Hydrogen Peroxide

A long-used antiseptic for cuts and scrapes, hydrogen peroxide can also be used to remove mold or tough stains on clothing. Just make sure you test it on a small, non-visible patch when you’re cleaning colorful clothing.

Steam

Just add water! There are lots of options out there for purchasing a steamer, which acts as a truly powerful disinfectant. It’s a slower process, but is worth the wait!
