2019 Might Be Your Year!

(to think about a new way of living)

As we age, we have many choices we have to make about where and how we want to spend our remaining years. And while many love the houses filled with memories of family and friends, the maintenance of home ownership can often become a major burden.

To kick off 2019, we’re featuring a series of blogs inspired by Ami Schnauber of LeadingAge New York. Ami has a wealth of experience with seniors and has first-hand knowledge of the challenges we face as we age.

In her newest video, Young at Heart, she stops by Avila to sit down for some “Q and Ami” with our residents.

“Among the most complex internal conversations many of us have with ourselves and others as we get older starts like this: I love my home, but it’s getting too big for me. I should learn about other living options that my be available nearby. Maybe consider independent living and learn about it’s benefits,” Ami says.

We’re excited to share more about what our residents had to say when they sat down with Ami, and how that ties into the choice they made to make the move to Avila. We love having a fresh perspective in the new year and hearing directly from those who call Avila home.

It was wonderful to have Ami visit our campus. She has a deep understanding of the perks involved when choosing an independent living community. She reminisced about her travels, saying, “I’ve had the benefit of being able to visit a lot of these places around the state and the country, and I’m often struck by how beautiful they are and the vibrancy of the people who live there.
